Granite and quartz are both popular choices for countertops, but they have distinct differences that can make one more suited to your needs than the other. Granite is a natural stone that is quarried and cut into slabs of the desired size. Because it is a natural product, each slab of granite is unique, with its pattern of colors and veins. Granite is also very durable, making it a good choice for high-traffic areas. However, it does require some maintenance, as it must be sealed periodically to prevent staining. Quartz is also available in slabs but, it's manmade- meaning that the colors and patterns are more consistent from one piece to the next. Quartz is also non-porous, making it stain-resistant. However, it is not quite as durable as granite and can chip or crack if hit hard enough. In terms of cost, granite and quartz are both relatively expensive choices for countertops. However, granite may have a slightly higher price tag due to its rarity.
